24th September 2020 – Latest Positions
Clearly 2020 has been a very disappointing year for almost every aspect of geocaching and unfortunately the annual Dartmoor geocoin race has suffered as well. The leading geocoin has actually returned to Dartmoor and is in a cache in my home village! Several others are active at the moment but have not travelled very far just about getting out of England and into Wales or Scotland.
At least 3 geocoins seem to have gone missing, 2 of them from their starting caches. With so many newbies about this year it is essential the geocoin owners immediately chase up cachers when they see a geocoin has not been moved on. Newbies seem to have no idea what they should be doing and I very much doubt if anybody walked to Boulters Tor, for example, to steal a geocoin.
Also very disappointing to see that after 6 months 3 geocoins have still not been activated and a further 4 have been activated but still not released. It is not too late to get these geocoins activated and released and I would kindly ask those cachers who have not done so to please do so as soon as they can. There is another 2 months for this race still to be run. Many thanks.
30th October 2020 – Latest Positions
As would be expected, not a great deal of mileage has been added but interesting to note that most of the geocoins are being placed and retrieved this year, rather than the constant (and boring) visiting we got in the last 2 years. Probably due to the coins staying in the UK. A change at the top with Isaac now leading. Once again so disappointing that 6 coins haven’t even started! It only takes a couple of minutes to activate a coin.
30th November 2020 – Final Positions
Probably the least said about this year’s race the better! Almost nothing changed from the previous update, only one geocoin climbed a couple of places up the table, with all the top places remaining the same. The top 3 have been notified and have received free race geocoins for 2021. Let’s hope for a better 2021 race.
