dartymoorParticipant
I think I’ve only bothered with 1 or 2 and have them hidden in my gps. Although I’ve got a field puzzle of my own out there, solving them isn’t my cup of tea.
I did make an exception for Satan’s Pit as I really wanted to do that one, and because it’s a Puzzle it does restrict the visitors which has to be a good thing in that case, and it does make it more rewarding eventually. That took me three evenings of head scratching, and if the reward for that was just a 35mm pot under some branches I might’ve been disappointed.
dartymoorParticipantHNY to you and yours too, DD!
dartymoorParticipantGood advice, GH, and your poetic logs always stand out 🙂
The only thing that niggles me slightly is cut and pasted logs for a series. Seems lazy, and makes the logs boring for anyone else reading them, but then for me, writing the logs is part of the fun of caching.
As for plain TFTC caches, haven’t you ever met a cache that you can’t think of anything to say about, nice or nasty? Just a box, under some sticks, somewhere not very interesting….

dartymoorParticipantHard call.
If they’ve found and got the cache, that’s a find imo, even if they don’t sign the log (no pencil, wet, missing) – even if the rules say you should sign the log.
Just being at GZ is definitely not a find though – especially as GPS is not 100%, your GZ may not be the intended GZ.
dartymoorParticipantSorry – off topic, but Miss – is that Satan’s Pit in your profile pic?
dartymoorParticipantSome good points there. The only real negative I can think from that is – what if nobody else does put a new cache in that area and there’s one less cache? (I’m not all about the numbers by any means, but if it’s not a waste-of-time cache then it does add to the hobby)
Finding your own… I’ve been told this is bad form so haven’t done it, but the temptation of fluffing my own numbers is there, and I /have/ found them!

dartymoorParticipantThanks – but cannot see any entry in that form about avatar, profile pic or an upload button. Maybe I don’t have the privs to edit my own pic?
dartymoorParticipantI looked for this on Saturday. No joy. I also had 10 figure coords for half a dozen letterboxes, of which I found two – both half a mile from the tor. Everything closer had been DLT’d.
I’d say the area has been cleared, but good luck on your alternate walk!
dartymoorParticipantI do think it’s a shame, and it could be viewed as littering. I’d be happy to swap the log or even remove the cache next time I’m in that area if the CO wants it. It’s very close to the road and was one of my first caches.
Funnily enough, I was caching only half a mile away on saturday, doing the lovely widdecombe views series. One of the logs in that was sopping and from comments had been for some time. I replaced the log (saw your mark there Dave, once I’d dried it out) as I didn’t want to give the CO’s an excuse to archive and spoil it for others (as they’ve done with one at Saddle Tor which is still there and fine)
Couple of extra questions:
Is archiving like this a sign the cacher is getting bored of the hobby?
Is replacing a wet or missing log always a good thing to do?

dartymoorParticipantMy favourite so far is the Templer Way series at Newton Abbot. Four caches with 3 unique and clever hides in a nice short level walk. They’ve added a second series next door which is also worth a try.
dartymoorParticipantI write logs as I’d like to receive them. If it’s a driveby that serves just to boost numbers, a quick TFTC may be all it deserves! But if it’s a clever hide, or takes you to a nice spot or there is some sort of challenge that you enjoyed – yes, totally agree – share your experiences!
dartymoorParticipantJust checking in and can echo the above voices!
